Rhode Island’s state-owned infrastructure includes 623 bridges and over 3,000 lane-miles of roadway. Available funds are no longer able to cover the cost of operating, improving and maintaining this important asset. Governor Carcieri’s Blue Ribbon Panel on Transportation Funding is looking at a variety of funding options for the years ahead. But right now, Question 1 is the only viable way for our state to meet this immediate challenge. Especially since the Federal government is willing to pick up over 80% of the tab.
